Welcome to the Lavender Class page.

This term our topic is 'There’s Only One You’. Children will listen to the sensory story ‘All About Me’ and explore what they can see, hear, smell and touch. They will look at themselves and identify their different body parts as well as the colour of their hair and eyes. Children will create pictures of themselves, adding their facial features. They will look at the story of Elmer and start to recognise their own and/or the feelings of others. Through the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears children will explore sizing indicating whether objects are ‘bigger/smaller’, ‘longer/shorter’ or ‘heavier/lighter’.  The children will explore number and shape within the provision, whilst also find shapes within photographs and pictures We will use the building and outdoor areas to explore patterns and sort objects by their colour, texture and shape. Children will continue to cook each week, communicating their choices of design/decoration using their fine motor skills to pour, spoon and mix.

In class we use a total communication approach, using spoken word, sign (Signalong) and visual pictures. The children respond very well to these as well as the use of 'now and next' and their schedules, which help them to transition from one activity to another. We currently have a sign of the week/fortnight, which will be published on Seesaw each week, this will be based on core words. The children will continue to complete individual Read Write Inc Sessions each day, focusing on either recognising of letters or words.

PE is on a Friday, however the children complete sensory circuits each day, which involves running, climbing and rolling. Children should still wear their uniform, however this should be comfortable and allow them to perform these activities safely.

The children make full use of the schools’ outside areas, including the woods and field throughout the week. Please ensure that your child has a pair of Wellington boots in school, so that they can access these areas in any weather! Could we also please ask for your child to have a change of clothes in their bag in case they get wet from water play.

Please ensure that you all have access to Seesaw, you will be able to see your child's activities.  I will be using Seesaw for class announcements and messages to individual parents, so please ensure you check it regularly.
