Hello! Welcome to Dosbarth Cennin Pedr!

My name is Miss Davies and I am your child's class teacher this year.

All ready to make a fresh start this Autumn Term term in

year five and six.

I am thrilled to have had the pleasure of teaching your children this academic year and it’s clear that everyone is ready for another exciting term in school.

I am excited about the plans we have for this Autumn.

Our topic investigations this term are;-

Welsh Heritage Project (Two weeks)

‘I wonder how Dorian Spencer Davies uses colour and curvy shapes to make Welsh places feel magical, and what stories his paintings might be trying to tell us’

Conflict & Resolution

‘I wonder what it feels like to leave everything you know behind and start again in a new place, just like many children and families had to during World War II and still do today’

There will be lots more going on this term such as Harvest festival, visitors to school and the various Christmas school activities in December. I will send more details home, when I have confirmed dates.

Key Information

P.E.

Our P.E. Days are Wednesdays and Thursdays. Pupils need to wear their uniform as normal and joggers/leggings and trainers to school on those days. (Hoodies will need to be removed for P.E.)

Spelling

Every fortnight we have a spelling patterns focused task in Literacy. From January new spellings will be sent home (every other Friday) in order for your child to learn them.

Reading

Reading letters will be sent home next week, if you have returned a slip requesting a reading book to be sent home (from last term), your child will bring an Accelerated Reading book home to read. Once completed, you can carry out a quiz on the Accelerated Reading website and bring it back to school to swap it for another.

Online Learning

We have many digital learning websites that always have tasks for you to do. (Please see the links below.)

Uniform:

In St James, we believe that it is important for ALL of our children to wear their school uniform.

Everyday. Please help us by ensuring that all uniform has your child’s full name clearly written on it.

Digital Learning.

Your child will bring home their own digital passport next week. This passport holds all the log on information they need to access our learning platforms at home.

HWB Digital Learning For Wales We use HWB for a lot of our online learning. You access Google Classroom, Email, Google Drive, Google Docs and Just2 Easy.

TT Rock Stars We use Times Tables Rock stars to learn and practise multiplication facts up to 12 x 12. Pupils are expected to know these facts by the end of Year 4.

Accelerated Reading This is the link you will use to do your AR tests when you have finished your reading books.

Purple Mash Purple Mash is a creative online space, which aims to inspire creative learning both at school and at home. You will be able to do activities in all lessons using this site. I will occasionally set you 'TO DO' task on here so keep an eye!

Reading Eggs Reading Eggs allows you to read and complete activities that is not only fun and effective, but also easy to do daily. Good reading practice for everyone in Dosbarth Brecon.
