Hello Dosbarth Daisy!

Welcome to Autumn Term 2026 for our Year 3/4 class.

Our P.E. days are Thursday and Friday. (Thursday indoor, Friday outside.)

Just wear normal school uniform but make sure to wear joggers or shorts and trainers.

Our main topic this term is Celts Cymraeg & Roaming Romans! We will be asking How did the Roman invasion change the lives of the Celts?. It is important for children to understand that history is not just the past, it makes us who we are and shows us how our communities have developed over many, many generations. Many of our traditions that are recognised in today’s Welsh culture were adopted during the times of the Celts and the Romans.

We will be learning about Celtic life, what they ate, how they lived, how they grew their food, Celtic jewellery and their daily routine. The second half term we will be learning about the Roman invasion and how it affected the Celts. We will find out about Boudicca and the Celtic uprising.

We will be setting up our history curiosity table, where there will be lots of artefacts for us to investigate e.g. replica rings, necklaces, brooches, pottery etc. We will have an 'immersion' day of fun activities to introduce the topic including activities such as tasting Celtic and Roman foods.

We have two exciting trips booked - to St.Fagans' Bryn Eryr Celtic Village and the Roman soldier/barracks workshop at Roman Caerleon.

This term, we are reading Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit and also exploring a range of non-fiction books – all linked to our topic. We’ll be writing different styles e.g. stories, character descriptions, alternative endings, news reports, fact-files and book reviews.

In PHSE we will look at ‘Being me in my World,’ ‘Celebrating Difference’ and being good digital citizens by keeping safe online.

Maths will focus on place value, data handling, symmetry, length, area, weight and capacity as well as addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.

Please revise times tables, money and telling the time with both digital and analogue clocks at home, whenever you have chance.

For the first couple of weeks of the term we will be completing our Welsh Heritage project about Tommy Cooper. Why is there a statue of Tommy Copper in town? Who was he? What was he famous for? We'll find out - JUST LIKE THAT!
