Safe use of Social Media
Mon 10 Nov 2025Dear Parents/Carers
Safe use of Social Media
I am writing to you regarding the use of social media by some children. As you may be aware, this can and has created some peer-related problems within our school pupils, including more recently, and often leads to behaviour problems and social and emotional distress for those children involved.
In the last few years, the growth in the use of social media sites has been huge: TikTok, SnapChat, Instagram, Facebook, online gaming, WhatsApp and YouTube being the most popular, many of which have age rating of 13+.
Although these sites are very worthwhile if used appropriately, they can cause a number of problems when they are used for inappropriately. This can lead to arguments and unkind behaviour, as well as mental health implications and self-esteem issues for victims. As you will no doubt be aware, our digital footprint is with us for life and that what is posted online, even within private messages, can have a detrimental impact.
It is crucial that we work with you, the parents and carers of our young people, to ensure that all children are safe on-line and use these forms of communication in an appropriate and respectful way. Continuing to closely monitor children’s activities on social media and other on-line sites is very much recommended.
As a school, we continue to speak with and teach the children about the importance of staying safe online; using social media responsibility and alerting a trusted adult to any worries, concerns and difficulties they might have. This work includes:
• Continuing, through PSHE and assemblies, to educate students of the dangers of inappropriate use of the internet
• Referring anything that we believe could be defined as, or could potentially lead to, a Child Protection issue to the appropriate external agencies
• Continuing to support parents with advice on how to tackle inappropriate use either by their own child or others I hope that you find this document, the links below and those on our website useful.
It is recommended that all families have an open and frank discussion about the use of social media platforms their children may be using. By working together, as outlined in this letter, I trust that we can keep all our children safe and happy.
Yours sincerelyMiss E Davies

Rhymney railway line from Caerphilly
Mon 03 Nov 2025October 202 5
Dear railway neighbour,
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE REGARDING THE ELECTRIFICATION OF THE RHYMNEY
RAILWAY LINES
Transport for Wales is delivering Metro, the biggest upgrade to public transport in South -East
Wales for a generation. In the next few years, we have a significant amount of construction,
engineering, and infrastructure work to do to upgrade our rail network so that it’s ready for
Metro. Initially, this will involve work to the Aberdare, Coryton, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhymney,
Treherbert, City and Cardiff Bay railway lines known as the Core Valley Lines.
As part of the South Wales Metro project, we will be installing overhead line equipment (OLE)
across the network to power our new electric trains, which will run on the Rhymney line.
Electrification of the upper Rhymney line
This letter is to notify you that the upper Rhymney line (from Caerphilly to Rhymney station) is
due to be electrified in the coming weeks . This means the power will be switched on and
available to be used. The overhead power lines that carry 25,000 volts will be ‘live’, making it
extremely dangerous for any persons to come close to the overhead wires or any associated
part of the structures . This includes the supporting masts, switch feeds and cables.
The overhead power lines are always on , and
you don’t need to touch them to be harmed or
killed as the electricity can jump over 3 meters.
It is also extremely dangerous to trespass on
the railway , as over the coming months we will
be testing our new electric rolling stock across
the network, and these train movements do not
always appear on our information boards or
online journey planners. We will also be
continuing to carry out infrastructure work to
improve our rail lines, where we will be utilising
railroad vehicles and machinery on the tracks.
Whilst there is no danger to people using the
railway correctly, anyone who does not respect
the railway boundary, the fence line that protects
both people and the operational railway from
deliberate or accidental trespass, are placing
themselves at risk.

We have a duty of care to contact all of our lineside neighbours and would be grateful i f this
information can be shared with family and friends to ensure that no unauthorised personnel
attempt to trespass onto the railway line .
What should I do if I see someone trespassing on the railway?
Anyone trespassing on the railway is at risk of serious injury and/or death. If you see anyone on
the railway who you believe is not supposed to be there, please call 999 as soon as you can.
For non – emergencies, please text the British Transport Police on 61016.

The release of 'Pancake' our rescued Hedgehog
Thu 03 Jul 2025A very poorly hedgehog with bite marks on his back was found by some of our older pupils on the 11th June 2025. Caerphilly Hedgehog Rescue were called and they arrived very swiftly and took 'Pancake' into their care.
After some fantastic treatment by this amazing organisation Pancake had gained 205g of weight and been treated for lungworm and a breathing problem that had made him very sniffly.
He was then released back onto the school grounds on 26th June and we provided him with a lovely wooden waterproof Box.
I am currently feeding him every night just until he gets settled in properly. We hope Pancake does really well and reunites with all the other Hedgehogs in the Area
