Hello Dosbarth Daisy!
Welcome to Autumn Term 2025 for our Year 3/4 class. ![]()
Our P.E. day is Tuesday. ![]()
Just wear normal school uniform but make sure to wear joggers or shorts and trainers. ![]()
This term, for the first few weeks, we are initially learning about Welsh artist Sir Kyffin Williams, exploring his paintings and having fun trying out his techniques!
Our main topic this term is Victorious Victorians. A lot happened to Caerphilly during this era! We decided to focus on the lives of Victorian children compared to children’s lives today. We will be asking, why were Victorian children’s lives so different? What changed? We will learn about what school was like in Victorian times and the changes in Education Laws. We will explore the conditions that Victorian children worked in – in coal mines, in service, chimney sweeps etc. What laws affected these children? We’ll learn about the Mines Act and the Factory Act. We will enjoy making Victorian style art and sing some Victorian music hall songs. We will consider the difference between the lives of rich and poor children, how they spent leisure time (toys and games) and what they ate. We will present what we learn to other classes and enjoy some Victoria sponge at a Victorian style tea-party. As the end of term approaches, we will also have some fun with a mini-topic about Christmas!
This term, we are reading Daisy Saves the Day by Shirley Hughes and Street Child by Berlie Doherty – all linked to our topic. At Christmas, we will read The Santa Trap by Jonathan Emmett! We’ll be writing different styles of fact files, stories, list poems, posters, e mails, adverts, book reviews and diaries.
In PHSE we will look at ‘Being me in my World,’ ‘Celebrating Difference’ and being good digital citizens by keeping safe online.
Maths will focus on place value within 3- and 4-digit numbers, addition and subtraction and also multiplication and division. Lots of number work this term! Please revise times tables and telling the time with both digital and analogue clocks at home, whenever you have chance.
We have two brilliant trips booked! In October we will visit St Fagan’s National Museum of Welsh History and experience the Victorian Schoolroom workshop. In December we’ll visit Cardiff Castle and after a guided tour of the Victorian house, take part in a Victorian Servants Workshop.
With Christmas at the end of term, we have a lovely variety of topics and experiences to look forward to.
Let the fun begin! ![]()
