Dosbarth Celyn (Y5/6)
Overview for parents.
Hello everyone and welcome to Dosbarth Celyn!
Teacher: Mrs B. Hilbourne
We are a Year 5/6 class of hardworking, resilient learners!
This Term.
Our main concept for this term is ‘Mountains and Struggles’, however our last two weeks will be based on ‘Welsh Heritage’. We began the term with ‘immersion activities’ where children were introduced to the topic and developed a basic understanding of the theme. I can safely say these activities were enjoyed by everyone!
There will be a focus on similarities and differences between life in Wales and Lesotho, but we will also delve into issues in South Africa at specific points during history with an emphasis on Apartheid and the struggles people suffered. We will be exploring the daily challenges faced by a variety of people, with our main question being; ‘I wonder what unites Wales and Lesotho?’ As many of you might know, we have a link school in Lesotho and we welcomed a Head Teacher from there last year!
Our class novel this term is ‘Journey to Jo’Burg’ by Beverly Naidoo. Children will be exposed to a wide range of genres, experiencing both reading and writing in the styles being studied.
