Dosbarth Celyn (Y5/6)
Spring Information letter
Hello everyone and welcome to Dosbarth Celyn!
Teacher: Mrs B. Hilbourne
We are a Year 5/6 class of hardworking, resilient learners!
This term
For our first two weeks we have engaged in a Welsh Heritage Project based on Aneurin Bevan, but our main theme for this term is ‘Victorious Victorians’.
We will be learning about life during Victorian times including education, living conditions, jobs and the workhouse. In addition, we will be learning about the life of Queen Victoria and how the Victorian era had an impact on Welsh history and our lives today. We will also be learning about deadly diseases and weird and wonderful remedies that were used during this period in history.
Other information
Our class novel is called ‘Street Child’; loosely based on the true story of a Victorian orphan. We will be reading the novel for pleasure and will also be using it to develop a range of reading skills such as inference and deduction. The novel will also be useful when covering a range of writing genres such as non-chronological reports, biographies and a narrative.
Dates
Weekly singing with Mr. Mantle, weekly ukulele lessons, visiting theatre – 31st January, NSPCC Pants Week, Y6 Crucial Crew – 7th February, Eisteddfod – 4th March, World Book Day – 6th March. Trip details to follow.
