We are a Year 5/6 class of hardworking, resilient learners!

This term 

^{Our first few weeks have been based on 'Welsh Heritage’ but our main concept for this term is ‘The Age of the Princes’. We will begin with an immersion day, where children will be introduced to the topic.}

^{There will be a focus on life in Caerphilly during Medieval times and the impact this period has had on their lives today. We will be exploring the daily challenges faced by a variety of people. This will also allow us to learn to celebrate our culture and heritage.}

^{A wide range of texts will be utilised, such as ‘You Wouldn’t Want to Be a Medieval Knight’ as well as exploring Welsh myths and legends. In the last few weeks of term, there will be a focus on ‘Christmas’ traditions now and in the past. Children will be exposed to a wide range of genres, experiencing both reading and writing in the styles being studied.  Our Medieval project will end with our showcase event for parents. Date to be confirmed!}

Google Classroom is used widely across the county and we use it during lessons.

Accelerated Reader

You will be able to find the Accelerated Reader link on our Google Classroom stream. 💻 😊 Accelerated Reader is a website that provides a ‘quiz’ or set of comprehension questions based on a book your child has read. This will test their reading and understanding. 

Purple Mash, Times Tables Rock Stars and Reading Eggs

These platforms can also be accessed from home. We encourage our learners to read and practise times tables every day! It really is so important! 📖 📚 👍🏼 

Here is an short overview of these learning sites:
* Purple Mash - a learning platform full of games, templates to type onto and challenges. Lots of fun to be had!

* Reading Eggs - Read books, compete quizzes, collect points and earn trophies!

* TTRS - a learning platform based around brushing up on those times table skills. Participate in battles with other classes, earn points and strive to become a ROCK HERO!

Spelling

New spelling words are sent home fortnightly. Please support your child by helping them to learn these spellings. Diolch!

PE

PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure uniform and appropriate footwear are worn on these days. Diolch!
