In the story "What the Ladybird Heard Next" the two baddies keep on stealing eggs from the hen. Play Kim's game by laying out different eggs or any objects on a tray or on a flat surface. Cover with a cloth. Grown ups take one away! Lift off the cloth. Children can you tell your grown up which one has gone?
Instead of using objects you could extend this to help learn shapes, by making simple 2D shapes from paper and play the game in the same way. Make different sizes and colours.
Remember you can ask your child about properties eg what size is it? How many sides does it have?
Ask the children to cut the shapes out it will help with their scissor skills and fine motor development.
