Flight of the Bumblebee
By: Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov
Born: March 18, 1844
Died: June 21, 1908
Korsakov was a Russian composer. During his childhood he often listened to Russian folk songs, church music, and operas. He was also a talented piano player. He composed his first symphony while on a navy ship.
Throughout his life, Nikolai wrote operas, choral music, chamber music and works for his piano. One of his most famous pieces is "Flight of the Bumblebee," which is a song about a prince who disguises himself as a bee.
Imagine a Bumblebee buzzing around and flying away quickly so that it's not caught! The composer, Rimsky-Korsakov, was trying to create a musical bumblebee!
* Listen to the music. 👂🏼
* Consider whether you like or dislike the music and give reasons. What about your adults?
* What instruments do you think you can hear? 🎻
If you want to
* Listen to the music. Draw the route that the bumblebee takes. Use paper and a pencil or chalk outside (ask an adult first!) 📝
* Create a dance to show the frantic movements of the bumblebee. High, low, here, there and everywhere. Flutter those frantic wings! 🐝🐝
